Meet the Long Beach Team Behind Birchbark Roofing Long Beach
Roofing crews come and go in Long Beach. Ours doesn’t. The people who show up at your door are the same ones who walk the roof, tear it off, and put it back together. We’re a small, tight crew that’s spent years working on the specific problems Long Beach roofs face: salt air off the harbor, morning marine layer, and the kind of sun that bakes asphalt shingles until they curl. Erik Lindgren leads every job from the first walk-through to the final photo of the clean-up. He’s backed by the Cedarwell family of roofing companies, which has set one standard for quality since 2000. But the people who earn your trust are the ones below.
Styles & brands we work with

Our People
Marco D., Lead Technician
Marco has been fixing roofs in Long Beach for over fourteen years, and he’s seen just about everything a rooftop can throw at you, from rusted flashing in Naples to sun-split underlayment in Bixby Knolls. He’s certified in GAF and CertainTeed installation systems, which means he installs those materials exactly the way the manufacturers specify, down to the nail pattern. Marco is the one who first spots the small stuff: a lifted shingle, a cracked vent boot, a valley that’s holding water longer than it should. He’d rather fix a small problem on the spot than leave it for a year and watch it grow. Off the clock, he’s usually fishing off the Belmont Pier with his son. If your roof has a stubborn leak that two other companies couldn’t find, Marco’s the one who will.
Rosa V., Service Coordinator
Rosa is the voice on the other end of (562) 512-7366 during the day, and she’s the reason a person answers when you call, not a phone tree. She’s been with the team for eight years and knows the calendar, the crew schedules, and the Long Beach permit office better than anyone. Rosa schedules every estimate, keeps the written pricing ready before the crew rolls out, and coordinates the door schedule when a dog needs to stay inside. She’s the one who makes sure you know who’s coming, when they’ll arrive, and what they’ll do when they get there. Before the work starts, you’ll have a written price in dollars. That’s Rosa’s job, and she does it with a level of detail that would make a building inspector nod with approval. She grew up in Signal Hill and can tell you the best pupuseria within ten minutes of any job site.
DeShawn R., Senior Installer
DeShawn is the guy on the roof during the hottest part of the day, moving shingles and keeping the tear-off moving without cutting corners. He’s been roofing since he was nineteen and has installed every brand Birchbark works with: GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. His specialty is flashing detail work around chimneys, skylights, and roof-to-wall transitions, the places where most Long Beach roofs leak first. DeShawn is also the one running the final clean-up: drop cloths through the hallway, shoe covers at every door, and a magnet sweep for nails before the photo gets taken. If there’s a nail in your driveway after we leave, he treats it like a personal failure. He’s a Long Beach native who claims the best breakfast burrito in the city is at a spot on Anaheim Street, and he will defend that position with data.
Julia M., Apprentice
Julia is the newest member of the crew, two years in, and she’s earning her hours toward a full roofing certification. She works under Marco and DeShawn, learning the trade from tear-off to final inspection. What she lacks in years she makes up for in care: she’s the one double-checking the nail patterns, sorting material so the crew isn’t climbing down for supplies, and confirming the clean-up photo actually matches reality before the crew packs the truck. Julia also runs the safety check at the start of every shift, making sure ladders, harnesses, and fall protection are in working order. She grew up in Lakewood and spent summers at her grandfather’s house in Long Beach, where she first started climbing onto the roof to clear gutters at age twelve. She’s meticulous, which is exactly what you want in the person learning to put a roof on your home.
One Standard, Every Job
Every Birchbark location is part of the Cedarwell family of independently owned and operated roofing businesses, and that means something specific. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is stamped on every job we do in Long Beach: if the work isn’t right, we make it right. That’s not a slogan. It’s the reason Marco re-checks flashing details before climbing down, why Rosa writes the price before the work starts, and why DeShawn runs the magnet sweep twice instead of once. The C.A.R.E. values run through it all: clean up like it’s our own home, ask before we move or touch anything, respect the family’s time and quiet hours, explain the price before the work. When you hire Birchbark Roofing Long Beach, you’re getting a local crew that answers to Erik Lindgren, not a faceless call center. You know who’s on your roof. You know what it costs before it starts. And you know what happens if something isn’t done right.
