Tamko Shingle Repair: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko-compatible shingle repair in Long Beach, with most residential shingle repairs running between $450 and $1,200 installed depending on how many shingles failed and where they sit on the roof. Most Tamko shingle repairs are completed the same day we arrive, since we carry common Tamko Heritage and Elite color-matched shingles on the truck. You’ll usually discover the problem after a windy night when you spot granules in the gutter or a shingle tab in the yard, or when a small ceiling stain appears near the roofline after heavy rain.
What makes Tamko shingles distinct is their fiberglass mat construction and the specific sealant strip pattern on the underside. When one shingle lifts or cracks, neighboring shingles start catching wind, and a small problem turns into a section that needs attention within a season or two. In Long Beach’s coastal climate, we see more failures on south-facing slopes where UV exposure sits hottest through the summer, and on older Tamko runs where the sealant has dried out from salt air and heat cycling.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
This repair coverage applies to Tamko’s most common residential lines installed across Long Beach: Heritage Vintage, Heritage Woodgate, Elite Glass-Seal, and the newer Titan XT series. The compatibility gotcha many homeowners run into is that Tamko changed their shingle width slightly between older Heritage runs and current production. A shingle from a 2012 Heritage bundle may not align perfectly with a 2024 Heritage shingle from the same “color” name, because the exposure and seal strip placement shifted during a manufacturing update. We measure the existing shingle exposure on your roof before selecting replacement stock, so the repair blends instead of standing out as a patch.
Tamko labels each bundle with a series code and color name printed on the wrapper, but if your original packaging is long gone, we can identify the match by pulling one intact shingle and checking the nailing pattern, the sealant strip profile, and the granule blend. For OEM versus aftermarket on Tamko specifically: we recommend OEM Tamko shingles for any repair on a roof under 15 years old, because the granule color and mat thickness will match what’s already up there. On older roofs where Tamko has discontinued the exact color, a quality aftermarket match in a similar granule blend is the practical choice, and we’ll show you samples side by side before anything gets nailed down.
Birchbark Roofing Long Beach is an independent roofing contractor and not affiliated with Tamko. We work with Tamko materials alongside GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, IKO, Atlas, and Boral, which lets us be honest about which shingle match is actually right for your roof rather than pushing a single brand.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters and downspouts. Tamko shingles shed some granules in their first year as they cure, but heavy accumulation after year three means the asphalt layer is oxidizing faster than it should, usually from trapped heat or poor attic ventilation.
- Curling or lifting corners on sun-facing slopes. The sealant strip loses grip over years of heat cycling, and the first place you’ll see it is the corner of a shingle tab lifting. Once one corner lifts, wind gets under it and flexes the whole tab with every gust.
- Cracked shingles, especially after a hot stretch. Tamko’s fiberglass mat is durable, but baked-out asphalt gets brittle. A shingle that cracks clean through in a diagonal line is telling you the waterproofing layer is spent, even if it looks okay from the street.
- Water staining on ceiling or wall near the roofline. This usually means water has already worked past the shingle layer and is traveling along the underlayment. By the time you see interior staining, the failed shingle is rarely the only one involved.
- Missing tabs after wind events. Santa Ana winds in Long Beach put real stress on older Tamko sealant strips. Finding a shingle tab in your yard after a blow means the sealant bond has failed and neighboring tabs are likely compromised too.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Tamko shingle repair in Long Beach typically runs $450 to $1,200 installed. A single missing tab or small crack cluster on an accessible slope sits at the lower end. Repairs near valleys, chimneys, or roof-to-wall junctions cost more because the flashing typically needs to be lifted and reseated, and that’s where labor time adds up. You’ll see your exact number in writing before any work starts, never an estimate that drifts after the fact.
Every repair includes the shingles, new roofing nails, sealant, any needed underlayment patch, and full debris cleanup. We don’t write change orders once work begins
the price you approve is the price you pay. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we make it right at no additional cost. That guarantee is stamped on every job we do, including this one.
Erik Lindgren, who owns Birchbark Roofing Long Beach, grew up in Los Angeles and learned roofing through the construction trades program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. He’s spent the better part of two decades working roofs across Long Beach, including older bungalows near Belmont Shore where the salt air does a number on flashing if it isn’t seated right. That’s the kind of local experience that tells us where to look when a Tamko repair is called in.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a reasonable middle ground here. You can safely check your gutters for granule buildup, note where you see lifted tabs from ground level, and take photos of any shingle pieces you find in the yard. That information helps us quote the job accurately over the phone.
Where DIY goes sideways is on the roof itself. Walking a pitched roof without proper fall protection is dangerous, and even a careful homeowner prying up a Tamko shingle risks cracking the ones around it, breaking the sealant bond on tabs that were fine, or misaligning the replacement so water finds a new path in. Roof work in Long Beach also involves permit awareness on larger repairs, and doing a patch that fails inspection costs more than the original repair would have. A written price before anyone climbs a ladder

FAQs
Tamko architectural shingles generally carry a 30-year to lifetime warranty, but real-world lifespan in Long Beach’s coastal climate runs 18 to 25 years depending on slope direction, attic ventilation, and how much direct sun the roof takes. South and west-facing slopes age faster here. Call (562) 512-7366 for a free estimate if you’re past the 15-year mark and seeing granule loss.
Yes, individual Tamko shingles and small sections can be repaired rather than replaced, as long as the surrounding shingles still have sealant integrity and the underlayment is intact. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair will buy you five more years or if patching is just delaying a larger issue. Estimates are free at (562) 512-7366.
A typical Tamko shingle repair takes 2 to 4 hours once the crew is on site, including setup, the repair itself, and cleanup. More involved repairs near flashing or valleys can run most of a day. We’ll give you a time window before we arrive.
We keep common Tamko Heritage Woodgate and Elite Glass-Seal colors stocked on our trucks for Long Beach service calls, which is why most repairs happen same day. If your color or series is something less common, we source it from a local supplier within a day or two. Call (562) 512-7366 and we’ll confirm what we have for your roof.
